Storytime at the Maritime

Every Friday we run free storytime sessions exploring the stories of the sea. Your tamariki will be treated to tales of the high seas and can join in the fun with movement and song.

Recommended age group: up to 6 years.

Family sailings 

Our daily sailing trips on the Waitematā Harbour are family-friendly and a great way to experience Auckland from the sea. Join TED ASHBY, NAUTILUS, or our cute little steam tug SS PUKE for a unique family experience.

Blue Water Black Magic

Located at the end of the Museum, you'll find several interactive games for children to learn about boat design and sailing in America's Cup.

Family FAQs

We have 2 fully equipped baby changing facilities located inside our accessible toilets, located at the bottom of both our main stairwells. 

Sustainability Area: Located at the top of the first staircase, this is an open and interactive space for families to learn about plastic waste

Fishing Gallery: Located inside Kiwis and the Coast Gallery, here you'll find an interactive fishing game for children to play while learning about sustainable fishing 

Sandpit: At the end of our main concourse is a large children's sandpit and seating area - a great spot for eating packed lunches 

Rocking Cabin: Step inside our 1840s replica accommodation cabin and test your sea legs in the New Beginnings Gallery 


For pushchairs and prams, there is an elevator located next to the Pacific Discovery Theatre at the beginning of the Museum and a large ramp in the Blue Water, Black Magic Gallery at the other end.
