Tākiri Make Days: November

Porotiti – spinning disc

Bring the family for a craft session by the sea and make a porotiti, spinning disk instrument, to take home. Learn about taonga puoro (traditional Māori musical instruments) that are linked with Tāwhirimātea (guardian/god of the wind).

Programme part of Tākiri: An Unfurling for Tuia 250.

About the exhibition

Tākiri: An Unfurling joins the ongoing dialogue around early encounters between Māori and Europeans in Aotearoa 250 years ago. Consider the impact through the work of seven contemporary artists, two curators and taonga of historic significance.
