No, the New Zealand Maritime Museum is FREE to Aucklanders all year round!

The New Zealand Maritime Museum is part of the Auckland Council whānau and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited. Thanks to the support of Auckland ratepayers, we’re able to offer them free entry - giving them the opportunity to explore, discover, and enjoy everything the museum has to offer.

Bus, train, walk or ferry, the New Zealand Maritime Museum is located on Hobson's Wharf at the heart of Auckland's Viaduct Harbour and down town area. Click here for directions.

Bus or train

The Waitemata Transport Centre is just 10 minutes' walk from the New Zealand Maritime Museum, making it easy to get to from the bus or the train.

Use the AT app from Auckland Transport to plan journeys across Auckland’s public transport network. 

Ferry

Passenger ferries run to several Auckland suburbs. The ferry terminal is a five-minute walk from the New Zealand Maritime Museum.

Additional ferry services from Great Barrier Island, Rakino Island, Pine Harbour and Waiheke Island are also available from the terminal.

Car parking

The closest car parking is at the Downtown Car Park with access from Customs Street West. There is an overhead walkway that connects this car park to the pedestrian precinct outside the New Zealand Maritime Museum.

There is mobility parking in Downtown Car Park.

Princes Wharf Car Park is also close-by.

The museum is open every day (except Christmas Day) from 10am - 5pm.

There's no need to book your museum entry in advance - just visit us with a valid proof of address for access.

However, if you're planning to set sail on one of our heritage sailings, we recommend booking ahead, as tickets can sell out quickly.
