Plan a Visit

A learning experience at the Maritime Museum is unlike any other. The combination of our world-class galleries, working heritage vessel fleet, location on Auckland’s busy waterfront, and our experienced team of Educators will ensure you and your community have a wonderful thought-provoking visit that creates lifelong memories.

Check out this short clip to give you and your students an idea of what to expect during your booked learning programme.

You will find this video a useful tool for your previsit planning or for tamariki or students who need extra support when encountering new environments outside school. We encourage you to show it to your all of your tamariki and their whanau prior to your visit.

How the Maritime Museum can help

Our Education team will work with you to bring the curriculum alive in a way that not only meets your educational objectives, but is also relevant to your students’ needs and interests. We hold a current LEOTC contract with the Ministry of Education. Our programmes are linked to the New Zealand Curriculum and are tailored to suit your needs.

We understand how difficult it can be to plan a trip. As experienced NZ classroom teachers, our Educators have insight into the practicalities and possibilities of a school trip, so we recommend you contact us as early as possible in your planning process.

To support you further we offer:

• Free previsits to teachers prior to the trip (Monday-Sunday 10am-5pm)
• Assistance from our Education team in planning your programme
• Free entry to supervising whanau and teachers accompanying your students
• Sheltered spaces for eating and gathering together
• Secure bag storage
• Payment by invoice after your visit * Available for NZ-based learning institutions only
