Auckland Anniversary Weekend

Auckland Anniversary Weekend

Sat 27 - Mon 29 Jan

The waterfront is the place to be this Auckland Anniversary Weekend, with activities for all ages at the NZ Maritime Museum and Auckland Viaduct, from games and crafts to special harbour sailings.

  • Explore the gallery with our interactive trails, design your own boat in our Blue Water Black Magic gallery looking at New Zealand's modern sailing heroes, or decide on your own journey story using an activity booklet to create the experience of travelling to a new place in our Immigration gallery in the form of a suitcase lightbox.
  • Relax and watch the Auckland Anniversary Regatta from our new End of Wharf area, where kids can enjoy our free knot inspired activities and games in the sun.
  • Drop in to our Macramé Workshop make and take home a macramé friendship band with our lovely hosts in the Eastern Viaduct Car Park.
  • Take part in the Maritime Museum's Sea Traders interactive game, where you will be immersed in a world of trade and explore the history of the port.
  • Jump on one of the special sailings (additional costs apply), see timetable below.

These activities and heritage vessels sailings in and around the NZ Maritime Museum are part of a host of exciting events happening on Auckland’s waterfront and harbour over Auckland Anniversary Weekend (Saturday 27 – Monday 29 January), including Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival; Ports of Auckland SeePort Festival and HMNZS Te Kaha and HMNZS Wellington Open Days; Ports of Auckland Sunset Symphony & Fireworks with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra; the Auckland International Buskers Festival; Silo Cinema & Ice Cream Sundae;  Queens Wharf Markets in The Cloud; Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta; and family activities.
