Photographer's caption: "All that remains of Chromarty, Preservation Inlet. Cromarty (sic) was an old gold mining town around 1900. By all accounts a very willing pub. Great tales of wakes, murders and other dareing do's. Puysegur Station boat foreground." Murray Williscroft was a lighthouse keeper, who, along with his wife Ventris worked on a number of stations around New Zealand in the 1950s-60s.
