About this ObjectThis intricate object is a small fish trap made in Papua New Guinea. Fish traps are traditionally hand-made from bamboo, vines and other materials from the bush. They catch the fish which enter and then cannot escape.
The donor's father was in the merchant navy in the late 1930s. Employed as an electrical engineer and during his voyages he collected material from the Pacific Islands in the 1930-40s.
