Climb aboard the heritage vessel fleet and sail the sparkling Waitemata harbour. With three vessels, the museum’s crew can take you on a varied range of sailing trips, from 15 minutes to a few hours. Either sit back and enjoy the ride, or get amongst it and hoist the sails!

All sailing schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Ted Ashby
is a ketch-rigged deck scow, typical of the fleet of scows that once operated in northern New Zealand waters. Ted Ashby tickets are available from the museum shop on the day of sailing and include admission to the museum galleries - $26 adults, $19.50 seniors/students, and $13 children. One hour sailings as follows:

  • 11:30am and 1:30pm - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
  • 12:00pm and 2:00pm - Saturday and Sunday.

* Please note: Ted Ashby will not sail from 11 August - 2 September due to annual maintenance.

Breeze
, a square-rigged brigantine, is a traditional wooden sailing ship similar to vessels used for New Zealand coastal and inter-Dominion trades in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Tickets are $30 per person. Sailing trips aboard Breeze are 2hr30min in duration, and are suitable for adults and children over 12 years old. Trips depart at 1:00pm, next sailing date:

  • 18 September

SS Puke is Voyager's steam launch and was built by E. Thompson and Son at Aratapu, towards the end of the 19th century. Puke trips last approximately 15 minutes, and are included in the Museum admission price. Steaming trips run between 11:00am - 3:30pm, next steaming date:
