National Volunteer Week 2017

It’s time to celebrate our volunteers!

This week (June 18 to 24) represents National Volunteer Week. Although we are grateful every day to our wonderful volunteers, without whom we couldn’t run, it is a fantastic chance to celebrate the invaluable knowledge, skill and time contributions given by the museum’ past and present volunteers.

We have about 150 active volunteers who support in a wide variety of day-to-day activities, including guided tours, crewing and maintaining our heritage vessels, hosting guests and general maintenance.

We are always receiving positive comments and feedback from our guests both when they visit, and online about how the volunteers made their trip so memorable.

And it’s not just visitors to the museum the volunteers spoil. Museum staff are treated to a batch of muffins every week from one of our model makers Roger, hand-knitting for staff babies from Greta and a monthly volunteer newsletter from Liz.

We recognise how important it is to celebrate volunteerism and the place it has in keeping our communities strong and healthy. We’d like to thank all our volunteers for their collective hard work. We absolutely couldn’t do it without them.
