Character Encounters and Family Trails

Looking for something fun to do with the kids over the weekend? Bring them into the Maritime Museum to meet our roving characters and take an interactive journey through our galleries.

Every weekend the museum will feature a special character to meet in the galleries. Keep your eyes peeled as you explore the museum and be entertained by their stories of how they journeyed to Aotearoa.

Bookings essential. Please call (09) 373 0800 or email info@maritimemuseum.co.nz to reserve your place.

Mid-Winter Music

Our popular Mid-Winter Music sessions are back this season with live music from May - August at the museum.

The free weekend afternoon music sessions feature a mixture of artists with something to please everyone.

On June 11, the popular Katherine Mowbray returns with Harp, Art and Storytelling. The talented Celtic harpist performed at the museum last year and was hugely popular. Her music is blended around original compositions of the Bardic tradition intermingled with folk, blues and gospel. Her performance will be accompanied by art activities for the kids.

Aotearoa One Waka Sailing

For a limited time only over Autumn/Winter 2017 the Maritime Museum will be offering a unique sailing experience on the waka Aotearoa One. Climb aboard this special vessel for a one hour sailing trip out on the Waitemata (Auckland) Harbour while learning about traditional Maori and Polynesian culture and sailing methods.

Aotearoa One is a modern take on a traditional waka and was launched in 2003 for Te Wananga o Aotearoa at their Mangere Campus in Auckland.
